COURSE EXPECTATIONS AND POLICIES 2006-2007

The purpose of this course is to prepare students to write and communicate in a variety of forms, including news stories, feature stories, editorials, columns, reviews and advertising. Students also will learn how to design newspaper pages, yearbook pages, and advertising. Students in the Journalism I class will be writing articles for School Life, the school newspaper, and the Ranger yearbook.
Materials Required:

  • Computer access (available in library and classroom)
  • One three-ring binder (If you have one binder for all of your classes, that is fine. You just need something to keep all of your notes, handouts, materials, etc., together.)
  • Notebook paper
  • Pens and pencils
  • Two highlighters (two different colors)
  • Subject dividers
Textbook:  Journalism Matters by James Schaffer, et al
  Various local and national newspapers
Expectations:
· Be prepared - Have your materials and assignments ready to go when the bell rings.
· Be on time - Take care of personal and grooming needs during passing periods.
· Be respectful - Treat others as you would want to be treated, and allow everyone else the opportunity to learn.
· Be involved - Participate in class discussions and activities.
· Be responsible - Take care of yourself and your schoolwork
