The purpose of this course is to prepare students to write and communicate in a variety of forms, including news stories, feature stories, editorials, columns, reviews and advertising. Students also will learn how to design newspaper pages, yearbook pages, and advertising. Students in the Journalism I class will be writing articles for School Life, the school newspaper, and the Ranger yearbook. Materials Required:
Computer access (available in library and classroom) One three-ring binder (If you have one binder for all of your classes, that is fine. You just need something to keep all of your notes, handouts, materials, etc., together.) Notebook paper Pens and pencils Two highlighters (two different colors) Subject dividers
Textbook: Journalism Matters by James Schaffer, et al Various local and national newspapers Expectations: · Be prepared - Have your materials and assignments ready to go when the bell rings. · Be on time - Take care of personal and grooming needs during passing periods. · Be respectful - Treat others as you would want to be treated, and allow everyone else the opportunity to learn. · Be involved - Participate in class discussions and activities. · Be responsible - Take care of yourself and your schoolwork.
