Welcome Class of 2014!
English Language Arts with Mrs. Jan Brown
September 10, 2007

Hello, my name is Jan Brown and I will be working with your child this year. I am currently in my 14th year of teaching English Language Arts in Texas. This is my 4th year with Comal ISD. I am extremely excited about the possibilities this school year holds, and I hope that you are equally as enthused.

I graduated from Sul Ross State University in 1992 with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. All my years of teaching have been in 6th grade English Language Arts. The first seven years were in Fort Stockton, Texas, three years in Smithville Texas, and two years at Arlon Seay. Last year at was my first year at SVMS.

I have been married to my wonderful husband Greg for 33 outstanding years. He is my best friend and spoils me often. We have two intelligent grown daughters who both have graduated from Texas Tech University of whom we are very proud.

For fun, my husband and I like to fish at the area lakes and rivers. We also enjoy going to the coast in the summer to fish. I enjoy working in my yard and love to discover new plant species to put in my garden. Reading is also a passion for me. My favorite books to read are Children’s Literature Books that have a message and lesson for life.

Both of my parents were teachers and influenced me greatly to become a teacher. Educationally, I want to do more that teach Reading, Writing, and Spelling. I have high expectations for my students on standardized test like TAKS, but also have high expectations for behavior. I believe that in order to achieve the highest level of education there must be a triangle of trust and open communication between the child, parent/guardian, and teacher. I want my students to feel comfortable, safe, and cared for. I want a classroom environment of mutual respect. My students should know how much I care for them and admire them for being good.

Please feel free to contact me regarding any situation that may be potentially helpful in our endeavors. jan.brown@comalisd.org My tutoring hours are Monday- Wednesdays, 7:30-8:15 a. m. (except when I have duty). Let’s all look forward to a productive and rewarding school year.

Sincerely,

Jan Brown
