Who am I |
|
Unlike most teachers that enter the profession, I did not go to college right out of high school. I had to survive first. My life growing up was one of stability in the household and all of a sudden as I entered my first summer out of high school, the bottom fell out! My dad lost his job and he and my mother had to move away. I could not go due to finances. I had to make my own way. 18 years old, with little money and not much to look forward to, I had some serious growing up to do. I firmly believe that we are placed In the positions we are for a reason. Soon that reason became clear. I wanted to become a Police Officer. For the next three years I worked toward that goal and in 1989 I graduated from the El Paso Police Academy. I had a storied career as one of El Paso’s finest. I served in several high profile divisions, Internal Affairs, Background Investigations, Training Division, Shooting Review Investigations, Auto Theft Task Force, Insurance Fraud Investigations. I was on my way. In 1997 a life changing event occurred and I realized that I had to make a change. I worked as a Trainer in the department and I loved to teach. Several times I had the opportunity to teach young children and I loved the fact that instead of being in a position to take away their liberties, I had a chance to influence them to stay on the right path. That was the high water mark of my career. I made the decision to become a teacher! In 1998 I went to college and two years later I graduated from Southwest Texas State with honors and a degree in History. After working a couple of years on my Alternative Education program, I got my first teaching break here with Comal I.S.D. In 2003 I started working at CLI the district’s Alternative High School Program teaching Social Studies. In 2005 I moved to Canyon Middle School and this past summer, our amazing Principal, Dani Baylor asked me to join her staff as a Computer Teacher and Golf Coach! Life is good and teaching “your” children is such an honor and is by far the most rewarding thing I have ever been part of. |
