U.I.L. Academics
What is UIL?
UIL is a way for students to compete against students from nearby schools in 13 different events.
Who can participate in UIL?
All 7th and 8th grade students are encouraged to join.
Which schools compete at the meets?
Canyon, Church Hill, Corbett, Dobie, Mountain Valley, Oak Run, Smithson Valley, & Spring Branch
When does UIL happen?
Students should listen for announcements starting in late November or early December and are
encouraged to sign up for one or more events before Christmas break.
Practices will be held before and/or after school from December through February.
Meets will take place on 3 Saturdays between the end of January and the beginning of March.
What awards can students win?
Students may compete in up to 5 events, one from each category, at a meet.
Students who place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd will receive medals.
Students placing 4th, 5th, and 6th will receive ribbons.
Students who place 1st through 6th at each of the two invitational meets will QUALIFY for the
TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS, the final meet.

*Transportation by bus is provided to and from the meets. Permission slips will be required.
